Hi, my name is Joanna Insco. I am a New York City-based freelance journalist with a Bachelor of Arts from Marymount Manhattan College in digital journalism with a minor in environmental studies. I have published work in global media networks like Al Jazeera and WORLD News Group, as well as in local papers in both Brooklyn, NY, and Sioux Center, Iowa. During my final year of undergrad, I grew my portfolio and engaged in opportunities to learn and work as a journalist through an internship at The Brooklyn Daily Eagle — New York City’s only daily newspaper devoted exclusively to Brooklyn, and through my leadership role as Digital Managing Editor of The Monitor, my alma mater's student-run newspaper. I have consistently sought to combine my passion for the environment and social justice with storytelling and I am excited to bring my skills into this field. I look forward to connecting!
Here is my resume where you can learn more about my academic and employment history.
I have pitched, reported, and written stories ranging from breaking news to feature-length pieces. Here are all of my current published works.
I pursue journalism through a variety of mediums: an important one being video storytelling. My Youtube profile houses a few unpublished mini-documentaries that I directed and produced using advanced cameras, microphones, and editing software.
As a journalist in the digital age, I capture images to assist in storytelling. Sometimes for specific pieces, and other times as stand-alone work. Here is some of my published photography.
As a senior in college many of my most involved works are kept within the classroom; here they become a part of my larger portfolio.
In addition to my journalistic pursuits, my endeavors have led to creative works of fiction and poetry.
